Daydreamer Opens in East Austin, TX
I am thrilled to introduce you to our latest design darling, Daydreamer. Recently unveiled as the newest addition to Austin’s East 6th St—a charming row of walkable bars, lounges, and restaurants—Daydreamer is a haven of escapism and easy vibes, all with a killer cocktail and Champagne menu. Read on to discover more about this jewel box and KKDW principal designer Kelly’s favorite moments within.
On vibe: A visit to Daydreamer is a low-key celebration. With its stunning cocktail and Champagne menu, you’re in for a feel-good, easy spot that immerses you in an effervescent glow upon arrival. That levity carries you through from afternoon to evening, as the warm pink walls transition to a dreamy dim den. When you’re here, sun up or down, you feel like everyone is in the same beautiful daydream.
On introducing drama into the space: The bar area is warm, easy, glowing; the bathrooms are romantic and dramatic. Lined with paintings, moody dark emerald tile, and infinity mirrors, the bathrooms are the night to the open areas’ day.
On little moments: There are so many little moments in Daydreamer that stop me in my tracks. The way the light plays with the pink walls, the warm wood, and the upholstery feel almost ethereal even on a stormy day. We used a circle and round motif throughout to imbue the space with softness and play with the natural light. We have moments of light and shadow instead of just light-washed, which makes the space not only more warm and inviting, but also more visually interesting. Our eyes and hearts want to see that contrast.
On Community: Oceans of gratitude to my pals Lauren Dickens and Miranda Bennett for collaborating on this shoot with me. They’re talented geniuses in their own rights, and it made the day very special (e.g. fun and inspiring) to get to have them with me when I photographed this project. I’m reminded often and loudly that doing creative things with creative friends is always wind in the sails. And a special round of applause to Miranda for doubling as art director and model!
