Landscape + Planter Welding, MAR 14
Welding Day Camp in Texas Hill Country: LANDSCAPE + PLANTER DESIGN-BUILD
Saturday, March 14
Spend a day immersed in the scenic Texas Hill Country, learning the art of welding in a fun, hands-on environment. Guided by your hosts, Kelly and Travis from KKDW, you’ll learn how to design, build, and install your own planters, edging, and more. No prior welding or power tool experience required. We’ll teach you everything you need to know.
In this class, you’ll learn to build planters and other hardscaping elements from start to finish. Each participant will fabricate their planter box—a smaller, portable version of the large-scale planters we’ll also be building during camp.
Enjoy two family-style meals and celebrate your creations in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re a beginner or just looking for a unique adventure, this day camp blends creativity, craftsmanship, and connection for an unforgettable experience. If you are already a fabricator looking to take your skills to the next level, we will tell you everything we know from our 20+ years in the design-build biz.
Read about what our camps through Texas Monthly’s eyes.
Location: This camp is held in a quaint fabrication shop on a private property near Fischer, TX. If you’ll be needing accommodations, there are abundant rentals in the Blanco, Wimberley, and Canyon Lake areas, or please contact hello@kkdw.co for more information or to coordinate booking a place with another attendee. Closest airports are Austin-Bergstrom and San Antonio International. Unfortunately, we’re not able to offer lodging at the workshop property, but happy to recommend something nearby.
Classes are capped at 10 people so that everyone receives hands-on attention. All materials, equipment, PPE (personal protective equipment) are provided. Two weeks before your camp date, we will send out information on address, parking, what to wear (long pants & long sleeves in natural fibers; close-toed shoes), and other important information.
General Day Schedule:
10:30am arrival, coffee, snacks, ease in
Welding and power tool about + safety
Steel 101
Cutting 101
Welding 101
Lunch break
Design + Build Session
Step back, admire your work, and enjoy an ice-cold beverage
Celebratory meal + drinks (we usually wrap around 5-6pm)
Bring your planter home
When you sign up, please let us know about any dietary or other restrictions so we can make sure you can participate fully in the entire day.
What to Expect Physically: Welding is hands-on and engaging—and that means you’ll be on your feet for most of the workshop (around 6 hours). You’ll be focused on your work up close, often bent over and looking down, so good eyesight (and secure glasses if you wear them!) is important. You know your body best, so just keep these things in mind to help you feel comfortable and ready to dive in.
AGE REQUIREMENTS: This class is open to all skill levels, but participants must be at least 18 years old to sign up. Those under 18 are welcome to join if accompanied by an adult guardian who is also enrolled in the class.
REFUND POLICY: Due to the intimate size of our camps, we are unable to offer direct refunds. However, if we are able to fill your spot with another participant, we will issue a full refund for your purchase.
GIFTS: If you are purchasing this for another person as a gift, please fill out their information when prompted at checkout. I promise we won’t spoil the surprise! We will email them about two weeks before the class with pertinent information.
PRICE: The price difference on this class reflects the higher cost of materials for the project you’ll be taking home.
DISCOUNT CODES:
If you’re booking with another person(s), use the code BETTERTWOGETHER15 for a 15% discount on your full order.
